I have been trying complex cases in Ohio for over 25 years and joined The Becker Law Firm in 2014. I have tried cases to verdict involving wrongful deathchildren catastrophically injured at birthmedical-surgical negligenceproduct liabilitypremises liability, and automobile negligence. I have obtained numerous multimillion-dollar recoveries for my clients. In 2016, I obtained the largest settlement in Ohio history for injuries to an individual plaintiff, $60.7 million, on behalf of my client, Gasia Thomas, who was severely injured by a fallen power line in 2012 at the age of 12. In 2021, I recovered $24 million for a college athlete who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest after basketball practice but was not given immediate life-saving measures by the coaching staff.

I am a former President of the Cleveland Academy of Trial Attorneys. I presently serve as a Master Bencher in the Judge John M. Manos Inn of Court.

For the past 25 years, I’ve held academic appointments at Case Western Reserve University School of law, teaching courses in Trial Tactics, Appellate Advocacy, and most recently, Medical Malpractice, as part of the law school’s nationally-recognized Law-Medicine Center.

I frequently speak at Continuing Legal Education seminars for attorneys, lecturing on legal topics relating to trial strategy, including cross-examination of experts and the use of demonstrative evidence in the courtroom.

Like our firm's founder, Mike Becker, I am a Certified Civil Trial Lawyer with The National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA), which is accredited by the American Bar Association.

The standards of Certification are high, so clients can rest assured that a Certified Civil Trial Lawyer knows his or her way around the courtroom and is among the best in the country at trial advocacy.

I live in Cleveland Heights, Ohio with my wife, Kate and son, James, and can occasionally be seen late at night playing my Fender Telecaster guitar at various road houses and music venues in Northeast Ohio. I am pretty good and very loud.

EDUCATION

I am a graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law where I was a member of the school’s award-winning mock trial team. Three years after graduation, I was invited to become a member of the adjunct teaching faculty.

I went to college at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. I started college when I was 16 years old and worked my way through school by loading trucks, driving delivery vans and making pizza, graduating when I was 20 years old.

Employment

PAST EMPLOYMENT

I started my career with a prominent general practice Cleveland litigation firm where I tried cases on behalf of banks, insurance companies, individuals and corporations. When I had been in practice for five years, I was assigned a case involving a baby injured at birth. During the course of handling that case, I learned the principles of obstetrics by reading text books and medical journals and ultimately won a seven-figure verdict. Since those early years, I have focused my practice on cases involving catastrophic injuries including those resulting from medical negligence.
