    What is a Board Certified Attorney?

    A National Board of Trial Advocacy Certified Attorney has demonstrated skill and expertise in a particular field and has proven it through rigorous examination and testing by the NBTA. The NBTA, and other organizations accredited by the American Bar Association must demonstrate that lawyers certified have an enhanced level of expertise and substantial involvement in the specialty area of certification. The standards are designed to enable the NBTA to evaluate thoroughly the objectives, standards and procedures of attorneys and to facilitate public access to appropriate legal services.

    Becoming Board Certified

    Certificate holders undergo a thorough screening of their credentials, including:

    • Documentation of their experience
    • Judicial and peer references
    • An exam, and
    • They must report all disciplinary matters brought before any official body, whether public or private, for scrutiny by the NBTA Standards Committee.

    Michael F. Becker is past President of the Cleveland Academy of Trial Attorneys. Mr. Becker is a frequent lecturer on medical negligence and is a former chair of the Medical Negligence Section of the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers. He has authored articles on Medical Malpractice in state and national publications. He has been elected a fellow of the International Society of Barristers and is regularly selected by his peers to be included in The Best Lawyers in America, as well as Ohio Super Lawyers. Mr. Becker was inducted into the Inner Circle of Advocates which is a group of the top 100 personal injury lawyers in the country.
