I am a partner and trial attorney with The Becker Law Firm, where I focus my practice on complex civil claims involving medical negligence and serious personal injury.
Being raised by two psychologist parents, the importance of helping others was ingrained in me at an early age. As I continued through high school and college, I realized that I had an ability to connect with people from all walks of life, and I ultimately decided that becoming a lawyer would allow me to help others navigate through some of the most difficult times in their lives.
My interest in representing victims of medical negligence also came from my own experience…
At the age of 25, my father was misdiagnosed as having a benign tumor that was in fact malignant. By the time an accurate diagnosis was made, it was far too late, and he ultimately passed away just two months before I started law school at the University of Akron. From that moment, I always knew I would one day help families who went through similar tragedies.
In my practice, I approach every case as if it were destined to be heard by a jury. Medical malpractice is a complex topic, and while physicians devote years to understanding the nuances of medicine, attorneys only have a matter of days to teach these issues to a jury. Therefore, I always think about my cases with the jury in mind, and I work to explain tough concepts in an understandable, compelling way.
My communication skills and compassion influence how I interact with my clients and how I convey their stories to juries. Those who know me well would describe me as honest, genuine, and selfless. In the courtroom, I am that same person, and I have had jurors tell me they sided with me because they trusted me. Additionally, I am fortunate to have been trained by some of the best trial lawyers in the country, and I constantly strive to improve upon those skills.
I know my clients’ cases are among the most important matters in their lives and I treat them as such. By the time we reach trial or mediation, I make sure that no one knows their case better than me, and I represent their interests with vigor and passion. I am available for my clients day or night, and I do everything possible to ensure they feel comfortable and confident in my care.
When not advocating for my clients, I try to be outside as much as possible. I enjoy running on the towpath, and have a hobby as a nature / bird photographer. On the weekends, you can usually find me on a trail somewhere with my camera looking for an owl, eagle, or some other bird of prey to photograph. I am also a musician and have been playing in a band for over 20 years. We write original music, and once won a songwriting contest where we beat over 4,000 other musical artists.
