I’m Michael Becker. I founded The Becker Law Firm, and I’m proud to be a plaintiff’s trial attorney because I believe we play a critical role in holding corporations, professionals, and people in general accountable for their actions and ensuring justice for people who are harmed by the negligence of others.
Societies depend on people recognizing that we have basic responsibilities towards one another. One of these responsibilities is exercising a reasonable amount of care to avoid exposing other people to the risk of being harmed. Some circumstances, such as when a doctor is treating a patient, or when an electrical utility company is running high-voltages through a neighborhood require a higher standard of care for how much caution must be taken to prevent harm coming to others.
When people who should be exercising an appropriate level of care fail to do so, the consequences can be tragic. People can die or suffer devastating injuries from which they may never recover. An individual and their family may be left with life-long consequences because of someone else’s negligence. Having your life and the life of your family profoundly altered because of someone else’s carelessness is fundamentally unjust.
Our society uses many different tools to anticipate harm and prevent it from occurring. Some of the most valuable and effective of these tools include regulation, licensing, inspections, incentives/disincentives, fines, and public criticism.
The Courts Are the Only Recourse for Victims of Negligence
However, we only offer one form of tool to the families whose loved ones have already suffered from someone else’s negligence: litigation and the threat of litigation.
Our court system is the only place where the victims of negligence have a chance to hold the people, companies, and organizations accountable for their actions. It’s the only place where they might find justice for themselves and families.
Full justice is rarely an easy thing to obtain.
Companies and organizations accused of negligence – and their insurance companies – can and will field a team of attorneys and experts to prove they were not at fault.
For a family in the midst of experiencing what may be the worst thing that will ever happen to them, finding justice can look like an almost impossible task.
That’s where we come in. The Becker Law Firm fights to bring full justice to families whose loved ones have suffered life-altering injuries or a wrongful death because another person or business was careless, reckless, or otherwise negligent.
The Becker Law Firm isn’t a lawsuit factory. In fact, we’re selective about the types of catastrophic injury and medical malpractice cases we accept. Our focus is providing legal services in cases that involve a permanent, life-altering injury or fatality. We seek claims on behalf of clients who will not get better, and who may never be able to return to the same life they had prior to being injured. We often take cases that other firms find too difficult and have won almost $100 million in awards and settlements on cases that other firms chose not to take.
In most of the cases we represent, there are no cures available to our clients. No action by a court can restore the damage that was done or make the pain go away.
The only justice that a court can provide in these cases is full compensation to the victim for the harm that the negligent party imposed. This compensation is intended to cover the projected lifetime expenses necessary to care for the injured person, guarantee them a good quality of life, restore opportunities that they otherwise would have lost, make up for the loss of future earning potential, and make amends for the pain and suffering the individual and family experienced.
